Day 3: Prayer

I don’t know about you, but I know that when I am feeling stressed and overwhelmed, turning to God in prayer always seems to lessen the weight on my shoulders. However, I often feel so conflicted and worry that, perhaps, my simple prayers aren’t worthy enough for the King of Kings. And then, just as I am feeling unfit, I am reminded that God is not critical when it comes to hearing our prayers. I honestly believe that God is satisfied with any amount of conversation that we have with Him! I think we must be reminded, though, that a conversation must be a two-way street. When we speak to God, He always listens. We need to remember that we must also listen to God when He speaks to us and answers our prayers, no matter what His answers may be. I know that I struggle with finding the time to get away from the demands of my daily life, quiet time where I can be alone with God and truly listen to Him with all my heart. In order to build a stronger relationship with Him, though, I know that this is something that I need to make a priority! I will definitely work on this and try harder to make that time for God and me!

And so, I leave you tonight with this prayer that I found (and love!) about living more simply and truly listening to and having faith in the answers we receive from God:

Lord, help me to unclutter my life, to organize myself in the direction of simplicity.

Lord, teach me to listen to my heart; teach me to welcome change instead of fearing it.

Lord, I give You these stirrings inside me:

I give You my discontent.

I give You my restlessness.

I give You my doubt.

I give You my despair.

I give You all the longings I hold inside.

Help me to listen to these signs of change, of growth; to listen seriously and follow where they lead, through the breathtaking empty space of an open door.

Amen.

How do you make time for God?
