Day 29: Bedtime Routines

As I was putting my youngest to bed tonight, a little later than usual, I was reminded why bedtime routine is so important to me! He was overly fussy because he was overly tired. He didn’t want to go to bed and cried every time I tried to put him down. Daddy finally had to take over and rock him to sleep.

What does bedtime look like in your house?

My kiddos are usually in bed (especially during the school/work week) by 7:30. With my (almost) five year old, we read a book (or a chapter in a longer book), say prayers, and then she climbs into my lap as I sing her a song. I tuck her in, give some final hugs and kisses, then blow kisses at the door. My littlest little (18 months) likes to rock while we sing our song and say our prayers. Then, we give kisses and hugs. I lay him in his crib, and he snuggles in for the night.

I am a firm believer in routines and early bedtimes. I feel like sufficient sleep is just as vital to a child’s health as proper nutrition. This why keeping bedtime routines in order is so sacred in our house. Tonight’s extra fussing proves its importance!

Momma needs sleep, too! So, on that note…

Sweet dreams!
