Day 30: Trick-or-Treat…1 Day Early

Because of the 100% chance of bad weather predicted for tomorrow, some of the neighborhoods around the area rescheduled trick-or-treating for tonight. I am so glad it is over and done with for another year! I love Halloween, but, boy, is it hectic! There’s costumes to figure out and buy or make, candy to buy, getting everything all packed up (to travel to a friend’s house) and making sure all the costume pieces are accounted for. Then, there’s the actual event, kids running around screaming everywhere, keeping track of said kids, and calming kids who caught a glimpse of a scary mask.

Speaking of scary masks, is it just me or have Halloween costumes gotten to be ridiculously scary and gruesome?!? When I was a kid, there were clowns and witches and cabbage patch kids. Now, there’s blood and guts and just plain awful scariness! I’ll be lucky if I don’t have nightmares tonight! My poor daughter has, unfortunately, inherited my aversion to masks! As soon as she stepped out of the car tonight, she came face-to-face with a bleeding Scream mask, and she went ballistic! Thankfully, the sweet boy underneath the mask, took it off and didn’t wear it the rest of the night since he was going to be trick-or-treating with us! He was so upset that he had scared her. But, unbelievably, his mask was far from the creepiest of the night. My poor girl spent more time hiding her face in my back than she did collecting candy.

Overall, though, we had a great night. We had fun with friends, ate some great food, snuck way too much candy from the kids’ buckets, and allowed the kids to stay up too late, eat too much candy, and have way too much fun!

Here are my cuties as Harry Potter and Hermione Granger. It may just be me, but I think they win the award for cutest costume duo! đŸ˜‰
