13. Knowledge is Power!

A couple days ago, I went to a training to get certified to handle and administer medication to students. Usually, I dread workshop days, as they are often filled with mundane speakers telling us things we already know or that don’t pertain to us. This one was different, however! I learned so many new things that can even be used in my own personal life! I’m thankful that I’m given chances like this to expand my knowledge! I love learning, and I’m so glad that I am still able to seize opportunities like these and educate myself further on a variety of topics!

5. Education

Today, I am thankful for my education. Growing up, there was nothing more important than education in my household. School came first, no matter what! I didn’t even know that “dropping” out of school was an option! I had no idea it was even legal! It was just not something that was ever even thought of. Because it was so embedded in us, my parents never had any school-related issues when it came to my sister and me. We never argued about going to school or tried to play sick. We actually enjoyed school! So, thank you to my parents for pushing me, for believing in me, and for never letting me stray!

I was blessed to receive an amazing Catholic education from second to twelfth grade. My grandparents were huge proponents of education. Because of them, I was able to attend college and graduate debt-free. I can never repay them for that unbelievable gift!

I have slowly been working on taking graduate-level courses. My goal is to obtain my master’s degree in counseling, hopefully within the next 5-6 years. I would love to make the transition one day from a classroom teacher to an elementary school counselor!

My husband and I are working to pass on the value of education to our children. I hope that they, too, see the importance of building a strong educational foundation!
